1 Samuel 2-Praising God for His Sovereignty

Read 1 Samuel 2:2
Today’s Truth

Hannah’s prayer in 1 Samuel 2 is a powerful song of praise. After years of sorrow and longing, she now rejoices in God’s faithfulness. But what’s remarkable is that her praise isn’t just about Samuel’s birth — it’s about the greatness of God Himself.

In her prayer, Hannah declares that God is sovereign over all things. She acknowledges His power to humble the proud and lift the lowly (1 Samuel 2:4-8). She rejoices that God sees the unseen, strengthens the weak, and guards the faithful.

Hannah’s response reminds us that true praise flows not just from what God has done, but from who He is. Even in seasons of uncertainty or loss, God remains our firm foundation — the “Rock” who never fails.

Discussion Questions
  • What aspect of God’s character are you most thankful for today?
  • How can you choose to praise God even when life feels uncertain?
  • What steps can you take to rest in God as your “Rock” this week?
Application

When we face challenges, we can follow Hannah’s example:

Praise before the breakthrough — Hannah’s joy wasn’t tied only to Samuel’s birth, but to her unwavering belief in God’s power and goodness.

Trust God’s justice — Hannah recognized that God lifts the humble and opposes the proud, reminding us that He is in control even when life seems unfair.

Rest in God’s strength — Just as Hannah described God as her “Rock,” we too can lean on Him when life feels shaky.
