1 Samuel 6- Responding to God with Reverence
Read 1 Samuel 6:6
Today’s Truth
After suffering from plagues and destruction, the Philistines realized they could not keep the Ark of the Covenant. They sought a way to return it, but rather than humbling themselves before God, they tried to test whether their suffering was really from Him. They sent the Ark back on a cart with a guilt offering, watching to see if the cows would naturally return it to Israel.
Despite their attempts to question God’s power, the Ark made its way back to Israel, proving once again that God is sovereign and does not need human manipulation to act.
Discussion Questions

- What steps can you take to grow in reverence and obedience to God today?
Application
This passage teaches us several key lessons:
Don’t test God—trust Him – The Philistines wanted proof, but faith means trusting in God even when we don’t fully understand.
God deserves reverence, not just religious gestures – The Philistines sent an offering, but their hearts were not surrendered. True worship is about more than actions—it’s about heart posture.
God’s power cannot be ignored – The Philistines learned the hard way that God is not to be dismissed. Instead of resisting Him, we should respond with humility and obedience.
Are there areas in your life where you, like the Philistines, are hesitant to fully trust God? Instead of testing Him, choose to surrender and walk in faith.
