1 Samuel 8- Trusting God as King

Read 1 Samuel 8:6-7
Today’s Truth

The Israelites demanded a king, wanting to be like the other nations. They no longer trusted God’s rule and instead sought human leadership. Though God warned them that a king would bring hardship, they insisted on having their own way.

This passage reminds us of an important truth: God knows what is best for us, even when we think we know better. Like the Israelites, we often want control, security, or leadership that aligns with our desires instead of fully trusting God’s plan.

Discussion Questions
  • Are there any areas where you are demanding your way instead of trusting God’s plan?
  • How can you seek God’s wisdom before making important decisions?
  • What does it mean for God to be the King of your life?
Application

Lessons from this passage:

God is our true King – When we rely on human solutions over divine wisdom, we miss out on God’s perfect leadership.

Be careful what you ask for – The Israelites’ request led to future burdens. Sometimes, what we want is not what we need.

Pray before making decisions – Samuel prayed when he was troubled. Instead of rushing into choices, we should seek God’s guidance.

Are there areas in your life where you are trusting human solutions instead of surrendering to God’s leadership? He is our perfect King—when we trust Him, we find true peace and security.
