The Book of Judges is the seventh book of the Bible, following Joshua, and it chronicles a tumultuous period in Israel’s history after the death of Joshua. Without centralized leadership, Israel went through cycles of rebellion, oppression, repentance, and deliverance. This book highlights the consequences of disobedience to God, as well as His relentless mercy and faithfulness in raising up judges to deliver His people.
The judges were not kings but were leaders, warriors, and deliverers chosen by God to rescue Israel from its oppressors and bring them back to Him. However, the nation repeatedly fell into sin, showing a pattern of spiritual decline and moral corruption. Judges serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of obedience to God and the dangers of doing what is right in our own eyes.
