Holy, Just, and Right

Read Lamentations 1:18
Today’s Truth

The verse actually continues on from here, but I want to stop there and just let that soak in. The Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word. This whole book, the book of Lamentations, is a lament over what has happened in Jerusalem over the judgment and discipline of God, upon His people, for their rebellion. In light of all that happens, the Babylonians overtake Jerusalem and take the people into exile, the conclusion is the Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word.

Discussion Question
  1. When is that last time you have lamented over the sin in your life and the harm it has caused? What did that lament look like?
  2. How have you rebelled against God’s word? How have you lamented that?
  3. Define repentance. How do repentance and lamenting go hand in hand?
Life Application

The Bible, over and over and over again, makes clear that in the end, we will all see the justice of God, the goodness of God, and the rightness, the righteousness of God in a world where we have all rebelled against him, and praise God for the gospel in the end, for all who trust in his grace and his mercy through Jesus, we will all stand totally forgiven for all of our rebellion and we will experience eternity under the goodness, and holiness, and the righteousness of God’s hand.
