Joshua 16 – Receiving Your Portion

Read Joshua 16:10
Today’s Truth

In Joshua 16, we read about the allotment of land to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph. God continues to fulfill His promise to give His people a land of their own. However, this chapter also mentions an incomplete task: the Canaanites in Gezer were not driven out by Ephraim (verse 10), showing a failure to fully claim the inheritance God provided.

This passage holds valuable lessons for us as we think about God’s promises and our response to His blessings.

Discussion Questions
  • Are you aware of the blessings God has given you, both spiritual and material? How can you express gratitude for these gifts today?
  • Are there areas in your life where you have left “Canaanites” (sins or obstacles) unchallenged? What steps can you take to fully claim the blessings God has for you?
  • How has God shown grace to you, even in times when you’ve fallen short?
Application

God’s Faithfulness in Giving: Just as God provided a specific inheritance for Joseph’s descendants; He has prepared unique blessings and opportunities for each of us. These blessings often align with His plan for our lives and reflect His generous provision.

Our Responsibility to Fully Claim God’s Promises: While Ephraim and Manasseh received their land, they did not fully drive out the Canaanites. This failure reflects incomplete obedience, which hindered them from fully enjoying their inheritance. Similarly, when we leave sin, fear, or doubt unaddressed, it can prevent us from fully experiencing the abundant life God desires for us.

God’s Grace Despite Our Failures: Even when the tribes fell short, God continued to be faithful to His people. This is a reminder that His grace abounds even when we stumble.
