Judges 5-Trusting God’s Leadership

Read Judges 5:11-12
Today’s Truth

Judges 5 is a song of praise sung by Deborah and Barak after Israel’s victory over Sisera and the Canaanite army. This chapter reminds us that when God gives us victory, our response should be worship and gratitude.

Deborah and Barak’s song recounts how God fought for Israel, using natural forces like rain to overwhelm their enemies. The song also highlights the courage of those who obeyed God’s call, while also noting the indifference of those who chose to stay behind.

This chapter reminds us that God is always at work in our battles, and when He brings deliverance, we must give Him the glory. Our worship should be a natural response to His faithfulness.

Discussion Questions
  • When has God given you victory in a difficult situation? How did you respond?
  • Are you more like the tribes who stepped forward in faith or the ones who stayed back? Why?
  • What does this passage teach you about how God uses people from all backgrounds for His purposes?
Application

Praise follows victory. When God moves in our lives, we should respond with gratitude.

God is our defender. He fights battles on our behalf, just as He did for Israel.

Courage and obedience matter. Some tribes stepped up to fight, while others hesitated. Are we willing to answer God’s call?

God uses unexpected people. Deborah, a woman and a prophetess, led Israel with wisdom and faith.
