Surrender is Just the Beginning

Read Colossians 2:6-7
Today’s Truth

Each of us has a story about how we came to know Jesus. Whether we met Jesus as a child, a teen, or just last week, the moment we met Jesus was powerful and significant.

But just like any other relationship, the meeting is just the start of the story.

Once we come to know Jesus, we are to "continue to live [our] lives in Him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness" (Colossians 2:6-7).

Think about the people you live your life with. They see you at your best and your worst. They know you intimately, and, because of that, their opinion carries more weight than anyone else’s.

Discussion Questions
  • When did you meet Jesus? How has your relationship with Jesus grown since then?
  • What’s one practice that’s allowed your relationship with Jesus to grow deeper?
  • What would it look like to invite Jesus into something new today? Think of an area where you don’t feel dependent on Jesus, and ask Him to join you there.
Application

Our relationship with Jesus grows deeper — it’s rooted and built up — as we trust Him and see Him come through. This day in and day out living together is what causes our lives to overflow with thanksgiving.

We can’t even begin to "grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ" (Ephesians 3:18). But as we let Jesus into our everyday, walking around lives, we begin to get a glimpse.
