Trusting God for Unfinished Work – Lessons from Joshua 13

Read Joshua 13:6
Today’s Truth

Joshua 13 marks a transition in Israel’s journey. Joshua is now old, and though much of the land has been conquered, there is still work to be done. God reminds Joshua of the remaining land yet to be taken and gives instructions for its division among the tribes of Israel. This chapter shows us that even in the unfinished work of life, God remains faithful to His promises, and He invites us to trust Him to bring about His purposes.

This chapter encourages us to persevere in the tasks God has given us, to trust Him for the areas where we fall short, and to remain faithful in our walk with Him.

Discussion Questions
  • Are there areas in your life where you feel the work is incomplete? Explain.
  • Are you trusting in God’s promises, even when the task feels overwhelming? Why is that hard?
  • Are you faithfully stewarding the gifts, responsibilities, and opportunities God has given you? How can you improve in that area?
Application

Acknowledge the Work Yet to Be Done: God says to Joshua: “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.” (Joshua 13:1)

This acknowledgment of unfinished business reminds us that there is always more to accomplish in God’s kingdom, regardless of our stage in life.

God’s Promises Remain True: Even though much land was still unconquered, God promised to drive out the remaining inhabitants and fulfill His covenant with Israel:“I myself will drive them out before the Israelites.” (Joshua 13:6)

God’s promises are not limited by our limitations. He is faithful to complete what He has started.

Stewardship of God’s Inheritance: Joshua was instructed to allocate the land as an inheritance for the tribes, even though some areas were still unconquered. This act of faith demonstrated trust in God’s promise to complete the work.
