Passage: Isaiah 9:6-7
Summary
I want us to consider what I’m calling The Advent of Peace. Because what Isaiah is describing here is not just the birth of a baby boy in Bethlehem — this is the in-breaking of peace into a world that has long been fractured and frayed by sin, by brokenness, by rebellion.
Sermon Questions
- When you hear the word peace, what comes to mind? How would you describe the difference between the peace the world offers and the peace God offers?
- Why is it significant that peace begins with a child—vulnerable, humble, and approachable? How does the incarnation (God becoming human) make the idea of peace personal rather than abstract?
- The Hebrew word for peace, shalom, means wholeness, harmony, restoration. Which area of your life needs shalom right now? How does Jesus bring peace with God (forgiveness), in ourselves (inner calm), and between people (reconciliation)?
- What does it mean that Jesus’ peace is increasing, not diminishing? Where do you see glimpses of God’s increasing peace—in your life, your family, your church, or Grace Place?
- What step can you take this week to walk in the peace Jesus brings? Who in your life needs the peace of Christ, and how can you be a peacemaker toward them?
