Passage: James

Summary

A church of refuge is a place where individuals can find not only spiritual guidance and solace but also tangible support for their physical needs. Rooted in the example of Christ's compassion and care for the whole person, such a church strives to embody love in action. It becomes a sanctuary for the weary, the broken, and the lost, offering resources, comfort, and hope to those in need.

Sermon Questions
  1. How have you personally experienced the church meeting either physical or spiritual needs? Explain.
  2. According to James, what is the relationship between faith and action? In what ways can meeting physical needs open doors to meet spiritual ones?
  3. What does it look like to offer spiritual care in a way that is personal, consistent, and rooted in the Gospel? How can a church avoid the danger of only doing "good works" without pointing people to Jesus?
  4. What are some ministries or moments you’ve seen where physical and spiritual care came together powerfully? What have you learned from that moment?
  5. What needs (physical or spiritual) is God putting on your heart to respond to this week? Are there any practical steps you can take to be a refuge to someone else?
