Passage: Hebrews 11:32-40
Summary
Hebrews 11:32–40 is the author’s finale in his great hall of faith. All in all, he’s given us 16 individual stories of faith, and for the final episode, he’s got a special two-hour season finale (but don’t worry, this message isn’t 2 hours… only 1.5).
Sermon Questions
- What do these “unnamed heroes” teach us about faith in ordinary life? Why does the author highlight ordinary believers whose names we’ll never know? How does this encourage people who feel unseen or unnoticed in their faith?
- The text shows both victories and suffering. Which side do you relate to right now? Why? Why is it important that both triumph and tragedy are included in the story of faith? How does this guard us against a shallow definition of God’s blessing?
- What does it mean that they “did not receive what was promised” (v. 39–40)?
- Who handed the baton of faith to you? Whose obedience, prayers, or investment shaped your spiritual life? These heroes lived by faith in promises they never fully saw. What does this teach us about long obedience?
- Who are you actively passing the baton to? Who in your life needs encouragement, discipleship, or spiritual investment?
