Passage: Hebrews 11:23-26
Summary
Every choice we make is a value statement…and over time our accumulation of choices reveals what we truly value. As we continue on in Hebrews 11, today we’re going to look at the early life of Moses and see some of the choices he and his parents made, what it said about their values, and the cost they were willing to pay for it.
Sermon Questions
- Hebrews 11:23 says Moses’ parents hid him “by faith.” How does their example of faith and courage challenge you to trust God in risky or uncertain situations?
- Verse 24 says Moses “refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.” What does it look like in today’s world to refuse an identity that culture offers and instead embrace your identity in Christ?
- Moses chose “to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.” What “pleasures” or comforts might we be tempted to cling to instead of following God’s call?
- Verse 26 says Moses regarded “disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt.” How does keeping an eternal perspective help us endure present trials or sacrifices?
- What specific step of obedience or sacrifice might God be calling you to make right now — even if it comes with a cost? How can your group encourage one another to walk by faith rather than fear?
