Passage: Revelation

Summary

John’s primary concern going forward is not the “how” and the “when” but the “who” and the “why.” John is talking about, “this is who this is about” and “this is what he is going to be doing.” This is important to keep in our minds as we peer into these windows of Revelation.

Sermon Questions
  1. What does it mean to you that God sits on the throne of eternity? How does that image impact you?
  2. The images of Revelation can be confusing. Jesus unlocks the meaning of history. Jesus brings salvation and judgment to the world. Jesus administers mercy and justice, forgiveness and redemption. Jesus brings holiness and righteousness, wrath and peace. Jesus brings everything into focus. How has Jesus brought your life into focus?
  3. God is wooing us back into the fight, inviting us to come into His presence and return to the call of pushing back the darkness and establishing light. God knows we are “prone to wander,” as the old hymn says, and He makes sure that, for all the ferocity that surrounds His throne, we know we are welcome and wanted there. How has God shown you in spite of your proneness to wander?
  4. After sin entered the cosmos and fractured God’s design and shalom, God began to move toward His people. Describe what it means to you for God to move toward you in Christ?
  5. Don’t wait until you are on a spiritual high, to live and love boldly and courageously. How does God call you to live boldly and courageously?
