Passage: John 19:28-29

Summary

God in the flesh, God as a man—incarnate. John made sure his readers didn’t forget that in spite of the God-like miracles Jesus did, he was still a man. Maybe that’s why John is the only one to record this word from the cross: “I’m thirsty.” He wanted his church and the church to know that Jesus was a man.

Discussion Questions

1. What in this life are you “thirsty” for? How do your thirsts and God’s will line up?
2. In your opinion, why is it important that John highlight’s Jesus’ humanity?
3. How can Jesus still be Lord even in the midst of his suffering?
4. Why is it important that Jesus experienced in his flesh the same things that we experience? How does that fact help you relate to Jesus more?
5. Is your thirst just physical or are you parched for the things of the Spirit too? Explain.
