Passage: Luke 11:1-4

Summary:

There is a specifically Christian way to pray. In fact, in Matthew’s recording of this same teaching, he tells us that before Jesus gives his disciples instructions on the way TO pray he warns his disciples how NOT to pray. Every religion teaches its adherents to pray. But Christian prayer is fundamentally different.

Sermon Questions:
1. How do you think of the Lord’s Prayer or the Model Prayer as recorded in Matthew and Luke’s gospel? Why do you believe Jesus taught his disciples to pray in this manner?

2. Is it important that we need to be taught to pray? Have you been someone who prayed many words and said very little? Explain your answer.

3. Why is it important in your opinion to pray for God’s Kingdom to come? Is that a staple in your prayer life? Why or why not?

4. Do you see God as greater than all of his earthly gifts? Do you see God as hallowed and most beautiful? Do you really believe that the point of our life is to give glory to God? Why or why not?

5. How is praying for “your daily bread” and confession a part of your prayer life? If they are not, why are they not? Do you truly depend on God or on yourself? Explain.
