Passage: Psalms 51:1-19
Summary
One of the greatest misconceptions about the church (God’s people) is that we don’t sin almost at all, and that’s how most church people pretend or portrait to be... sinless... We live superficial lives of fake smiles, and sadly, God’s people, over time have learned to hide sin, and hide sorrow, from everyone... because of a silly unbiblical pressure to look like you have it all together.... People have no clue what repentance is because they never see it in you…
Sermon Questions
- In your own words, define repentance.
- In your opinion, do you believe you take sin seriously? Explain your answer.
- In Psalm 51, David isn’t looking just for forgiveness-he is looking for God himself. Most of us look for ways to get out of trouble. Why is it so important to seek God in the midst of our sin?
- One of the most amazing things about this Psalm is that David had sin of sexual immorality, murder, and lying, and there isn’t a single direct word that mentions any of those 3 things in the Psalm... Why? Because those specific sins are not the cause, but the symptom. What is the idol behind your sin struggles?
- We either repent or we rebel. Explain what you think that means in your own words.
